How Do You Choose the Best Rubber Gym Flooring?

Decided upon getting rubber gym flooring for your fitness flooring turf? Rubber gym flooring comes in a range of options and prices. If you want the standard dark, often black, floor, then your wallet will thank you as these are the more affordable types. When you get into colorful territory, however, prices can become steep. Even if you decide to splurge a little and get yourself something on the higher end of the price point scale, you are still getting an amazing deal as rubber gym flooring will last you a decade or more. Fortunately, there are plenty of options.

Option A: Rubber Tiles

This is probably the most popular option because of how easy to install they are. They tend to be a bit pricier than your average roll or mat. However, you do not need to spend anything on installation because anyone can put these together. They basically fit together like a giant jigsaw puzzle and offer the flexibility of being placed anywhere.

Option B: Rubber Rolls

Fitness flooring turfRubber rolls look great and are probably my favorite type of indoor sports flooring. Generally, they are cheaper than rubber tiles. Rubber rolls are a bit more cumbersome to install since the rolls are heavy and chances are you will need a hand in order to lay these down. The fact that they are very heavy makes the shipping more expensive. The upside is that once you have the installation complete, you get a beautifully seamless floor that will last a long time and will offer excellent protection for your workout.

Different Types of Rubber Tiles & Rolls

Both options come in a variety of types at different price points. Recycled rubber will be the most affordable option. While recycled rubber does not offer the same level of tear-resistance and strength as other options like vulcanized rubber, it is perfectly suitable for most home gyms and will still offer all the shock absorption you need. With this option, you also get to make an environmentally friendly purchase. The materials used are 100% recycled and would have ended in a landfill otherwise.

Vulcanized rubber is the middle of the road. The vulcanization process takes partially recycled materials and bakes them at a high pressure resulting in a very strong material that will never need to be sealed and that will never grow bacteria. The price of vulcanized rubber is a bit higher than recycled, but still more affordable than virgin rubber.

Virgin rubber does not use any type of recycled materials. These are almost as strong as vulcanized and offer about the same qualities as well. What makes virgin rubber stand out is the aesthetic – it offers a wide range of colors and looks great in any space.
