Is It Safe to Use Pre-Used Gym Flooring? Why or Why Not?

Everyone loves a bargain, finding an expensive ticket item for a small fraction of the cost is exhilarating and exciting, it also allows you to own something you may otherwise not want to spend full price on. So, when it comes to rubber gym flooring, why not?

Is It Worth It?

This question is quite impossible to answer, at least by itself. There are attenuating circumstances that may make it worth it or on the flip side, not so much. Take this scenario; for instance, a couple buys a full set of interlocking rubber tiles and builds themselves a gym with every intention of using it every day.  As one day blends into another and months pass by, they do not use it because (insert personalized excuse here). In this case, I would say, absolutely! Go for it; you are getting a brand-new floor that was going to be used but ended up collecting dust, and chances are, you are getting it at a steal. In the opposite scenario where the floor has been used and abused by the constant dropping of weights on it, it may not be as safe.

It Depends on the Type of Floor

Other surfaces like artificial turf or hardwood would probably be better new.

What if You Want to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint?

A reason some people have for wanting a previously owned option could be to reduce your carbon footprint. With climate change being at the forefront of most people’s minds these days, we are growing more environmentally conscious. As we become more aware of our environment, it is only logical that we want to preserve it. Fortunately, some options ensure as much. Recycled rubber flooring rolls might be the perfect surface if you want something new but with a much lower impact on the planet. By buying a recycled surface, you still derive the same benefits as a regular rubber floor but with the bonus of helping the environment.

When Prices are Too Good to be True, They Usually Are

Since every situation must be evaluated separately and giving a blanket statement on whether to buy or not a used gym floor would be irresponsible, I think the best advice is to use common sense. If you are dealing with a commercial space, then chances are they have used the surface a lot more than a privately-owned gym. If the asking price is way too low, you may want to figure out why, and if there is no apparent reason, know that when things are too good to be true, they usually are.
